We've released @VisiData 2.0! It's now in PyPI (pip) and will be available in other package managers and distros as soon as we catch our breath. patreon.com/posts/visidata-2…
Call for Proposals! csv,conf,v6 is happening May 4-5. Submit your talk by Feb 28, 2021 (def not by Feb 28 2020 like our email blast said...sorry...still getting used to the new year!) forms.gle/KVc97WDwDu93q2WE6
Last night, we deployed VisiData v2.1.1. 🎉
It is a small release with bugfixes that you will want to have.

My favourite is that it now handles piping into head gracefully.
head closes pipes early, as soon as it has enough input to showcase.
My kingdom for a lightweight csv “spreadsheet” editor. I want to be able to:
1. see data in cells
2. enter new data
3. sort in ascending and descending order
4. save
(That’s it, that’s the end of the feature list.)
I bought a new @System76 Linux PC back in June. It randomly hangs under load, now happening several times a day, even with just videochat and mild gaming. Customer service at System76 is responsive but I don't have time or energy to diagnose and experiment with heat paste.
I became proficient in Excel for a year or two when I was using Palo to build some reporting tools. O'Reilly's Analyzing Business Data With Excel is a good resource.
These days, I'd consider @VisiData a better tool for ad hoc data exploration.
I'm 2 hours in listening to The Caretaker's "Everywhere At The End Of Time", a 6.5-hour ambient musical project intended to evoke the long and terrifying descent into dementia, on the eve of the Winter Solstice of 2020. Everything is fine.
Rad. Last night I realized I could use @VisiData
as the pager for psql. It works so well!
PSQL_PAGER="vd -f csv" psql --csv --pset pager=always
