Am I the ONLY geek who can never, NEVER remember which way round the "target" and "link name" arguments to the "ln" comnand should go? Or whether to capitalize -S if I want a symlink?
Thank heavens for --help...

It's consistent with cp, mv and other commands ..
CMD <something that already definitely exists> <something that probably doesn't exist>
So..
cp existing_file new_file
ln -s existing_file sym_link

Yeah, but as others have pointed out, "direction of moving of stuff" is a fickle guide. cp/mv/ln go one way, and tar and a few others (notably assignment, in most languages!) go the other.
Except for things used literally every day, a reminder is often needed.
--help RULES.

On that topic check out tldr.sh/ if you haven't. There are a multitude of CLI apps (including an Emacs package) that act as frontends to the tldr database (it's offline database).
