I request you to put a well documented message or video on how to create and use a token whenever someone create a GitHub account. That will help newbies. Because the whole internet taught them to use their account passwords as repo password. And many people learns from there.

Also you can email all the people who are still using account passwords. Making the ecosystem easier for newcomers will make the ecosystem better.

Why token based auth over ssh? Seems more complex to keep track of the token for every push than to just use ssh.

I think that is more part of the point, They don't want to remove HTTP auth entirely as that might break some workflows so instead they are requiring token instead of password.
