One of my biggest pet peeves is reading a book or article where the author says they read a gazillion books per week and recommend you do too, but don't mention how the hell anyone can read that much without neglecting everything else in their life.

As someone who's picking up Elixir and Phoenix, the courses on @pragmaticstudio by @clarkware and Nicole have been invaluable. Really looking forward to their upcoming Phoenix LiveView course. pragmaticstudio.com/courses/…

I love living in Osaka, but I do miss Berkeley's quirkiness and charm often.

The more time I spend doing contract work, the more I'm convinced that the only worthwhile job opportunities are the ones that aren't advertised anywhere. Almost all job boards and freelancer platform postings looking for contract workers are pretty worthless.

An example of an unrealistic job post I found this morning, with someone looking for: - Desktop app developer - Write APIs in JavaScript - Do complete DevOps for setting up API - Know Elixir for new web-based portal - Know iOS or Android for new mobile app All for <$50/hour.

For the record, I wouldn't do any single one of those for less than $50 per hour, and no one else should either. Know what you're worth.

I love listening to audiobooks but can't find any good ways to take notes while on the go. Bookmarking a section and going back later is best solution I've found, but at that point I'm wondering if I should've just gotten a copy of the book on paper or Kindle instead.

My sister is a nurse in Puerto Rico, and was among the first on the island to receive the Covid vaccination. Yesterday she got her second dose, and this morning she was racked with pain and could barely get out of bed. Hopefully this isn't a widespread issue with those vaccines.
