Got inspired by many people on @IndieHackers to #buildinpublic, so I decided to give it a try with my 7-day SaaS depandacy.com. I was surprised about all the positive side effects of this decision. Here are my top three benefits of building in public ⬇️
1. Staying accountable
Committing to something in public helped me to work as hard as possible to actually make that happen. It's much easier to postpone a deadline if nobody knows about it.
2. Getting Feedback
During development, a few people reached out with ideas to me. Many of these ideas I had never thought about before. Sometimes this helped me to build features or solve problems in a completely different way than I planned initially.
3. Growing my audience
One unexpected side-effect was that this week I grew my audience like never before. It's still quite small but for me this week was a very big jump.
Playing around with Swift and SwiftUI again and having some fun with the Twitter API 👨💻. Finished the authorization part quite fast considering I am still a total iOS native noobie 🙃
Today I added a lot of tiny improvements to depandacy.com like loading states and better error messages. Also, I added this neat live chat plugin on the landing page with tawk.to which is completely free!
Worked a bit on the landing page of depandacy.com. I improved the copy a bit and also improved SEO as well as other little fixes reported by Lighthouse. ✨
Got some great feedback already! Things I will focus on next are:
• Integrate Sentry to keep track of errors
• E-Mail alerts when a new dependency version is available
• GitHub integration to connect your repository to Depandacy
