Github have changed the default branch name from master to main. Seems like a pretty strange change, anyone know why they have done it?

From what I know it's because people found the term "master" offensive so they decided to change it

They did it because it reminded some people to master slave and thats considered offensive to some

I mean, it's been a while now, but it was the connotation of master branch with the master/slave paradigm found in slavery (which has been parroted at many instances in IT. Less problematic terminology would be main/other, primary/second (parent/child is eh)
