Why are law enforcement and intelligence failures so often greeted with calls to give law enforcement and intelligence agencies more power rather than with outraged questions about why they didn't more aggressively or effectively use the power they already had?

No. To the extent the FBI could be doing a better job, the reasons it doesn’t are political & would apply equally to a new & redundant agency.
Other countries have domestic spy agencies to fight extremists at home. Does America need one, too? trib.al/LdhBi2F

Does literally anyone have less standing to call on others to “rise to the occasion”? Has that phrase ever been used more cynically than at the end of this outlandish letter?
My letter to Democratic Leader Schumer. The Senate should vote to dismiss the article of impeachment once it is received in the Senate. We will be delaying indefinitely, if not forever, the healing of this great Nation if we do otherwise.
