Do Donors Now Control The Labour Party? Less than 24 hours after potential donors allegedly demanded Richard Leonard resign as leader of Scottish Labour he was gone. Questions have to be asked of David Evans, @Keir_Starmer & @AngelaRayner invidious.snopyta.org/5nDCKJQ5G2o

Labour’s Westminster polling now means it would lose an extra seat in Wales compared to the result in December 2019. Given experience of red wall then, it could be even worse. A party which perennially discards it’s core support.
Welsh voting intention for UK Parliament, via @YouGov, 11-14 January (changes since 26-30 October) LAB 36% (-7) CON 33% (+1) PC 17% (+4) REF 5% (-) GRN 4% (+1) LD 3% (-) [My seat estimate] LAB 21 (-6) CON 14 (+5) PC 5 (+1) This would be lowest % of Lab seats (52.5%) since 1935

Could Wales be the next Scotland for Labour? I wouldn’t bet on it, but a similar assumption of impossibility ultimately destroyed the party north of the border.

The rise of the SNP took effectively 15 years after devolution, though it’s possible end point became clearer after 2009. What’s Labour’s selling point in South Wales?

The average age of those in mission control for Apollo 11 was 26. If you are young tell that to someone next time they say you aren’t old enough for a big job. There’s something to be said for original thinking and problem solving.

The relieved “sister parties”:
Labour’s Lisa Nandy tells Times Radio there is “a sense of relief” amongst their international sister parties that Corbyn has gone and Lab are no longer in turmoil.

Here’s why I worry about Labour championing ‘value for money’ to win economic ‘credibility’. Blair did the same favouring PFI over backing tax increases. After 1998 PFI built 700 projects with capital value of £60 billion. By 2048, they will have cost £310 billion. Yes, really!

There’s a strong argument they knew PFI was wrong, and that it would ultimately cost much, much more. But it meant New Labour could politically nullify arguments on tax increases. Completely mad, and points to a broken political system.

Good piece on Britain’s post-Brexit role. The default foreign policy of Labour’s front bench, particularly Lisa Nandy, appears to be the essentially servile Atlanticism we’ve seen since the 1950s. A refreshing piece for a topic stuck in a time warp. on.ft.com/3bFTZVz
